Wie sind Sie zur Mathematik gekommen und welches waren die bisher bedeutendsten Schritte in Ihrer beruflichen Laufbahn?
I began to learn Mathematics in Nanjing University in China and then moved to Paris to do my PhD thesis. I continued my research as Postdoc in Prague, Beijing, and Bonn. These all are my invaluable experiences where I enjoyed different mathematical atmospheres a lot.
Was gefällt Ihnen an der Stelle einer Juniorprofessorin?
I feel very happy that within this somehow longer-term position I can work on some interesting problems which might be difficult and open. I am also happy to have the chance to give lectures which interest myself and hence to learn the beautiful theories profoundly myself.
Im SFB betrachten wir Wellenphänomene sowohl analytisch als auch numerisch. Welche Forschungsprojekte möchten Sie im Rahmen des SFBs durchführen?
I will work mainly on the analytical side of the wave phenomena. Nevertheless I think that the numerical analysis techniques as well as the numerical results will considerably help to understand (sometimes even rigorously) the related analytical theories.
Unser SFB vereint ca. 80 Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler, die sich mit Wellenphänomenen beschäftigen. Inwieweit erhoffen Sie sich davon zu profitieren?
It is wonderful to have the chance to discuss with experts in my research field. The efficient discussions will not only help to understand the phenomena from various points of view but also initiate and facilitate further original and interesting research projects.
Sie werden im Rahmen Ihrer Position auch die Gelegenheit haben, Promovierende zu betreuen. Was ist Ihnen dabei besonders wichtig?
I am so happy to have a PhD student working with me who can not only assist me in the research and teaching but also give useful feedbacks which are important for me to adjust the directions of research and teaching.
Obwohl Karlsruhe momentan einer großen Baustelle gleicht, hat der Standort einiges zu bieten. Neben einem frisch renovierten Mathegebäude und dem Campus direkt in der Innenstadt kann man seine freie Zeit im Schlosspark oder in einem der zahlreichen Restaurants und Cafés genießen. Hatten Sie bereits Zeit sich etwas einzuleben?
As a Chinese, I am so happy to see so many Chinese restaurants nearby. Although there is still room for the improvement of the quality, I am satisfied with the quantities. And of course the green parks nearby definitely help mathematicians to recover from the rusty brains.
